Hello there!

Wow, just saw the last post here and it's dated May 23, 2013. Guess I've been away for too long and...all of sudden it's already 2015! Wish you guys an amazing year (better late than never, eh?) and start whatever resolution you have now.

Chop, chop. Let's just go straight to my first post in 2015 and my first post after a looong hiatus (I'm not gone anyway, still active in Instagram, just because it's easier there - find me @dearjournal). This will be a very short post just because yours truly is actually not planning this to be posted in blog.

Today, I decided to give Union Deli a try, after failed to do so in last week visit (which made me ended up at Nomz). It was...packed, just like my previous visit. But decision must be carry on. So I did my share of waiting (persistently) for an hour to get a table.

After what it seemed like forever (pardon, hungry individual should be forgiven for constantly exaggerating the situation), my eyes tempted me to order Cubano and Choco Rice Doughut.

Cubano - Tender pork shoulder with mojo sauce and cheese between two pieces of soft baguette. I left pickles and mustard out since I'm not a big fan of them. Talking about the authenticity of my Cubano...

Cubano or Cuban sandwich is a comfort food in Cuba, and the essential part of this dish is the use of mojo sauce. It is the signature marinade of Cuba and it finds its way into many different dishes. Most mojo sauces don't include oil. Oil is not necessary when cooking a pig, but mojo sauce with oil is needed when fixing a dish with chicken, fish, and beef. With or without oil, the key elements to a good mojo sauce are sour orange and right proportion of sour orange, garlic, salt, and whole black peppercorns.

As for the Choco Rice Doughnut, I would say it's a bit too sweet for me. Didn't finish it in the end. Tried my friend's Chocolate Bread and I found the sweetness to be just right.

Despite the waiting time, I pretty much enjoyed my lunch. Service was proper and polite but a bit sloppy. Hope they would expand the space soon, since the space is clearly too small for the big demand.

Phew, quite a long post for only 2 items.

See you around
and have a great weekend!
